Best time to visit Udaipur
The best time to visit Udaipur is the winter season. This is because the temperature remains comfortable and is apt for visiting the monuments and other places of interest.
Stay in Udaipur
One of the best areas to stay in Udaipur is near Pichola lake. The beautiful lake is surrounded by many hotels which provide excellent accommodation. Another great option is the Old City, which is surrounded by local markets, and cute cafes and is within close proximity to several tourist attractions.
Udaipur has a good mix of Backpacker hostels like GoStop & Zostel to the great Havelies like Jagat Niwas Palace & Udai Kothi, and more luxurious accommodation such as Taj Lake Palace or the Oberai Udaivilas (remember the royal wedding scene of Yeh Jawani hai Deewani).
Most of the budget places cluster around the eastern edge of the lake around the tangle of noisy streets that make up the city’s tourist center.
Getting around Udaipur
Conveniently, a lot of the city can be covered on foot, and many of the things you'll want to see are located fairly close together. The narrow alley in the old city can also make any other form of transportation a bit of a hassle. If you do want to give your legs a break, you can hire a bike for a day for around INR 600.
You will need a taxi or a cab to reach the farther site, like Monsoon Palace or the Bahubali Hills.
Thrifty Tip's💡
The old city has narrow lanes, prefer bikes/scooters to roam around the city.
Book your ride in advance to watch the mesmerizing sunrise from Bahubali Hills.
Four-days Travel Itinerary
Day 1
Saheliyon-Ki-Badi
This ''Garden of Maids'' is embellished with numerous fountains, flower beds, a lotus garden, and marble elephants that provide a picturesque sight to behold.
Located on the bank of Fateh Sagar Lake, this ornate garden presents a green retreat in the dryland of Rajasthan. There are so many flowers of approximately every color. The quiet and peaceful surrounding serves as the icing in the cake. You might think that you are dreaming. Try pinching yourself, it might help!
It will take you less than 30 minutes to see the whole garden, but it took us more than two hours to get a perfect frame without the photobombing. Plan your day accordingly!

Do not forget to take your picture in front of Rasleela garden with thousands of pink roses and the epic yellow gate for your Instagram highlight.
Fateh Sagar Lake
A trip to Udaipur is loaded, and this makes planning a short trip here a tough task. Nevertheless, hoping that we do not miss the crucial spots, our next stop was Fateh Sagar Lake.
Several islands surround this artificial freshwater lake. The chaotic, colourful, and crowded wonderland gives you a lively vibe. Take a nostalgic walk around the lake and watch the sun go down slowly.
To get a more engaging experience of the lake, take a boat ride here.
The Chowpatty here is a paradise for foodies. Cheese Paw Bhaji, Kulfi Falooda, Sev Puri, Missel Paw, Dabeli, Kulhad Chai & this catalog is endless. It is the place to delight your taste buds, so eat until you drop!
Thrifty Tip💡
If you wanna save some bit, we recommend taking a boat ride here. It is much cheaper as compared to Lake Pichola.

Day 2
City Palace
We decided to start our day two with an extra grandeur in the lap of Udaipur, so we headed on to the grand City Palace.
Right in the center of Udaipur, this majestic palace is just unmissable. It’s a beautiful fusion of Rajasthani, Mughals, and Persian architecture. There are just so many colours and stories in different rooms. What makes it more alluring is its location by Lake Pichola.
It is a big palace with breathtaking locations. There are gardens, old architecture, paintings, artifacts, etc. Most importantly, the palace is at a height, hence provides a magnificent view of the city and great background for clicking the photos. As the palace is big, it will take 3 to 5 hours, hence wear comfy clothes, carry a water bottle, and take breaks inside. Make sure to keep your day lite as the palace will drain most of your energy. If you are going in summer, make sure to keep yourself hydrated.
Because of the sun and the heat, you can't visit many places in Udaipur during the city, but you can surely visit the city palace during the daytime. It's not hot inside, wonder why? Go there and find out!
We recommend visiting the palace during the day, after that, in the evening you can go to Bagore Ki Haveli and enjoy the folk show (check below).

The rooftop restaurant looks out over the lake, Aravalli Hills and cityscape, and serves exquisite Indian, continental, and traditional Rajasthani cuisines. This traditional Jharokha (partially covered sitting areas) over the water, surrounded by windows, just blew our minds. We highly recommend dining here.
It is the wow moment of our trip. We switch to the camera mode and start taking pictures until we all get exhausted. Ever wonder how architecture can be so accurate and how all white fill your heart with colours? Check some of our snaps of this dreamland, and you'll know!!

As you strolled towards serene Gangaur Ghat, there it was, the grand entrance to Bagore Ki Haveli. There are over 100 rooms set around beautiful courtyards, with different sections such as weapon, turban, puppet, etc, to take you back in the time.
Whether you spend time at the museum or not, don't forget to watch the traditional Rajasthani culture folk show ''Dharohar''. It will spellbind you to all over the Rajasthani dancing styles, puppet shows, and religious prose along with the traditional music. Ever heard someone picking up blade by eyebrows? Ever seen puppet black magic? And yes, those Matkas in the picture are not glued, the lady is balancing them while dancing barefoot on glass pieces! And believe us, that's just the trailer of the show. Excited? We were also clapping in shock!
After the show, enjoy some leisure time in the bank of Gangaur Ghat.

We decided to end our wonderful stay in Udaipur at the top of the Aravalli hills at Monsoon palace. This another beautiful palace is perched on the hilltop of the city. The marvellous whitewashed architecture creates a romantic glow at sunrise. It offers the perfect view of the lakes, palaces, and surrounding countryside as it is nestled atop the Aravalli hill. You can make your way up to the top by bike or take a breathless hike.
We covered it with Bahubali hill, so we missed the sunset. The museum there is still in construction & there is not much to see, but the view of the city from the top is fantastic.
